On Saturday 18 April 2026, Luxembourg’s women’s national football team played a nominal home match in the UEFA Women’s European Qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup against Israel, losing 1-3 at the BSC Stadium in Budaörs, Hungary.

Luxembourg head coaches Cristina Correia and Daniel Zirbes welcomed back captain Laura Miller, who had recovered from injury and returned to the squad.

The hosts made a strong start to the match and took the lead early on. In the seventh minute, Hannah Dietrich delivered a precise pass into the centre, which Kimberley Dos Santos converted to open the scoring (1-0). The goal marked the Red Lionesses’ first of the qualification campaign.

However, Israel responded quickly. In the tenth minute, visiting forward Vital Kats equalised with a cross-shot after advancing down the right wing to restore parity at 1-1.

In the eight minutes following the equaliser, Israel threatened the goal twice more through Maia Cabrera and Vital Kats. However, Lucie Schlime dealt with both efforts, making several saves, while at the other end the hosts also tested the Israeli goalkeeper, with Fortuna Rubin called into action in the 27th minute to deny Charlotte Schmit.

However, two more goals followed for the visitors. In the 34th minute, Vital Kats completed her brace to restore Israel’s lead. Three minutes later, Talia Sommer recovered the ball in midfield and combined with Noa Selimhodzic, who finished calmly to make it 3-1 in the 37th minute.

In the second half, both goalkeepers kept their nets intact. Lucie Schlime made two further saves, while Fortuna Rubin produced three, including two in added time.

Luxembourg pushed to reduce the deficit late on. In the 90th minute, Charlie Jorge attempted a shot from the edge of the box, but it was too central, while in added time Charlotte Schmit also tried her luck from a slightly wide position without success.

The 1-3 scoreline remained unchanged until the final whistle, marking Luxembourg’s fourth defeat in Group B4. In the other match, Scotland and Belgium played out another draw, this time 0-0.

The team of Cristina Correia and Daniel Zirbes will next face Belgium away on Friday 5 June 2026.
