On Sunday 18 October 2026, Luxembourg's Grand Ducal Police reported a hit-and-run incident and three cases of drink-driving across the country over the weekend.
On Saturday 17 October 2026, at around 15:10, police received a report of a hit-and-run accident on Boulevard Prince Henri in Luxembourg-Ville. Reportedly, a vehicle had collided with the rear of another car waiting at a red traffic light.
When the occupants of the affected vehicle got out to assess the damage, the other driver reversed in an attempt to leave the scene. The woman driving the affected car tried to prevent the driver from fleeing by holding onto the bonnet of his vehicle. However, he continued driving for several metres before she let go, after which he fled the scene. The woman sustained no injuries.
The passenger of the affected vehicle had filmed the incident on his mobile phone, allowing police to identify the registered owner of the other car during their initial investigation. Officers established that the vehicle owner was already subject to a driving ban but could not locate him at his home address.
Later that afternoon, another person arrived at a police station with the vehicle involved to report the same accident. However, video footage showed that this person was not the driver who had fled the scene. On the orders of the Public Prosecutor's Office, police seized the vehicle and drew up reports, including for making a false statement.
Later on Saturday, at around 18:10, a police patrol spotted a vehicle driving erratically in Rue de Mersch in Angelsberg. Officers stopped the car and conducted a breathalyser test, which returned a positive result. Police confiscated the driver's licence and filed a report.
Another incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday 18 October 2026. At around 02:32 police received a report of a vehicle travelling along the N8 towards Saeul, swerving heavily and repeatedly crossing into the opposite lane. Shortly afterwards, officers located the stationary vehicle with the driver still behind the wheel. A breathalyser test returned a positive result and police confiscated the driver's licence.
At approximately 05:20, police received another report of a vehicle travelling at an unusually low speed and swerving along the A1 motorway towards Trier in Germany. The vehicle arrived at the Wasserbillig service area at the same time as a police patrol. Officers checked the driver, who tested positive for alcohol and issued a temporary driving ban.
