On Tuesday 20 May 2025, Luxembourg's employment agency, ADEM, reported that there were 18,596 resident jobseekers available for work at the end of April 2025; the unemployment rate rose to 6% (up from 5.9% in February and March 2025).

The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM as of 30 April 2025 stood at 18,596, an increase of 1,000 individuals (or 5.7%) compared to April 2024.

This increase particularly affected jobseekers registered with ADEM for twelve months or more, as well as jobseekers over the age of 45 and the most qualified jobseekers (university graduates). Regarding professions, the most significant increases concerned the accounting and road transport driving sectors.

The number of new resident registrations continued to decline. A total of 2,379 residents registered with ADEM in April 2025, marking a decrease of 157 individuals (or 6.2%) compared to April 2024. Despite this drop in registrations, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 6% in April 2025.

The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits decreased by 25 individuals (or 0.2%) year-on-year, reaching 10,162 as of 30 April 2025. The number of individuals benefiting from employment support measures remained stable over one year, at 4,556.

In April 2025, employers reported 3,577 vacant positions to ADEM, representing a 6.3% increase compared to April 2024. There was a particular increase in demand for kitchen staff last month. The total number of available positions at the end of the month was 7,200, down 10% compared to April 2024.
