On Thursday 4 September 2025, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture announced that it had appointed Roger Barthelmy as Director of the Rural Economy Service (SER) for a renewable seven-year term.
Roger Barthelmy, who holds a Master’s degree in Agronomy from Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität, Bonn, joined the SER on 17 March 2008 as an agricultural engineer within the Division of Agricultural Statistics, Agricultural Markets and External Relations.
He replaces Pierre Treinen, who had led the service since 2012 and now joins Luxembourg’s permanent representation in Brussels as Coordinator of the European and International Affairs Unit of DG Agri and Spokesperson to the Special Committee on Agriculture (CSA).
The ministry remarked that Mr Barthelmy will use his expertise to strengthen the SER’s role in supporting and representing Luxembourg’s agricultural sector.
The SER, established in 1964 shortly after the introduction of the Common Agricultural Policy, supports Luxembourg’s agricultural sector by combining economic analyses, market monitoring and international representation. The service also provides statistical and economic data to the Ministry and European organisations.
