The Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) has reported that it is marking its tenth anniversary this year, celebrating a decade of achievements in biomedical research and translational medicine.

The LIH noted that, since its foundation in 2015, the institute has grown to become a leading national and international centre for precision health, digital innovation and patient-centred research.

To mark this anniversary, the LIH has published its 2024 Annual Report, a special edition that highlights a decade of scientific progress and outlines a visionary roadmap for the future of healthcare innovation. The full report is available at https://www.lih.lu/en/annual-report-2024/

"As we celebrate LIH’s 10th anniversary, I am proud of the progress we have made in building a fully integrated translational research institute that combines data management, clinical research and mechanistic science," said Prof. Dr Ulf Nehrbass, CEO of LIH. "In 2024, we reached important milestones such as launching the Department for Medical Informatics and recruiting the first patient for the Clinnova project, demonstrating that our vision is now a reality. We remain committed to advancing post-genomic precision medicine by considering a wide range of health factors, positioning LIH at the forefront of medical innovation."

The report details major developments across the LIH’s core research areas, including the launch of the Department of Medical Informatics, which strengthens the institute’s capabilities in big data and AI-driven precision medicine. It also showcases key breakthroughs in post-genomic research and highlights the LIH’s role in fostering collaborations across Europe to accelerate innovation in healthcare.

Moreover, the report reflects on the LIH’s commitment to societal impact, emphasising projects that translate scientific knowledge into tangible benefits for patients, and the institute’s efforts to create interoperable data infrastructures for cross-border research partnerships.

On Thursday 12 June 2025, the LIH was set to hold its Ten-Year Anniversary Gala, a special event honouring the institute’s accomplishments and looking ahead to future challenges and opportunities in biomedical research. The gala, held in Esch-Belval, includes: opening speeches by national dignitaries and LIH leadership; talks on artificial intelligence, data science and the future of precision medicine; expert panel discussions on translating research into healthcare impact; live testimonials and multimedia presentations; a cocktail reception and networking session.
