On Wednesday 29 April 2026, the Luxembourg Government and members of the press gathered under the covered terrace of Kessel restaurant on Place Guillaume II in Luxembourg-Ville for their traditional "Mäertchen" luncheon.

The informal annual meeting, organised by the government, serves as an opportunity for government ministers and journalists to get to know each other in a convivial atmosphere, as well as to discuss political and economic topics over lunch.

Several media outlets were present at this year’s lunch, including Chronicle.lu, to converse with members of the Government, including Prime Minister Luc Frieden, Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture Martine Hansen, Minister of Education, Children and Youth Claude Mesich, Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism Lex Delles, Minister of Defence Yuriko Backes, Minister of Health and Social Security Martien Deprez, Minister for Home Affairs Leon Gloden, Minister for Culture Eric Thill and Minister for Digitalisation Stéphanie Obertin.

The Mäertchen (Octave market) remains open on Place Guillaume II in Luxembourg-Ville until Sunday 10 May 2026. Held as part of the Octave celebrations, it features around 50 food stands arranged around a central covered terrace of more than 1,000 m2, along with game stalls and fairground attractions. It is open daily from 11:00 to 22:00.
