Rugby Club Luxembourg (RCL) hosted the first of seven legs of the Social Touch League at the Boy Konen Stadium on Thursday 5 June 2025.

According to Touch Luxembourg, around 150 players and officials took part in the competition. The league features twelve teams competing over seven weeks for the coveted RCL Social Mixed League Cup.

The opening night featured a “surprise result”, as the Growth Stages junior team, made up primarily of twelve to sixteen-year-olds, defeated Maples, one of the pre-tournament favourites. Maples, consisting of young athletes currently on university work placements, are expected to improve as the competition continues.

Participating teams in this year’s league include Aztec, Clearstream, Indosuez, BBH, One Group, Eurostat, Risky Business, Buvette & Co and Terres Rouges Touch.

“It’s amazing to see such a variety of people coming together on a Thursday evening to play sport. This sense of community is what Touch is all about, and it’s why Rugby Club de Luxembourg has supported the development of both junior and senior teams over many years. It also creates a lovely community atmosphere when so many teams stay for food and drink at the Buvette,” said Hamish Cullen, RCL’s Director of Touch.

Mixed Touch is a low-contact version of rugby played with six players on the field at a time, three of whom must be female. Its simplicity and low-contact nature make it accessible to a wide range of participants, from international athletes to complete beginners and from kids to grandparents, according to Touch Luxembourg.
