Luxembourg’s senior men’s XV rugby team opened their 2025/26 Rugby Europe Conference campaign with a commanding 60-6 away victory against Norway on Saturday 18 October 2025 in Stavanger.
The visitors, led by head coach James Kent, trailed early after a penalty from Norway’s Sindre Storrusten, but quickly responded with nineteen unanswered points from Adrian Mendez Elola (9), Stuart Logier (5) and Liam Carroll (5). Norway reduced the deficit with another penalty before Luxembourg went into the break leading 19-6.
Reflecting on the first half, Coach Kent told Chronicle.lu: “I think in the first half, it took us a little while to get going, and then at halftime we spoke about the need to play direct and be more disciplined in defence. The guys did that - they made the change for the second half, and that allowed us to play our game on our terms. So that was a big positive.”
Luxembourg dominated the second half, scoring 41 unanswered points, including two tries each from Anton Agassi and Luke Ng Yan Kwong, and one apiece from Stuart Logier, Edward Graybrook and Yared Ketema. Norway were held scoreless after the break, as the Red Lions maintained strong defensive structure throughout.
Speaking about individual performances, James Kent noted: “We had a few solid performances: both wingers, Luke Ng Yan Kwong and Stuart Logier, scored a few tries and looked dangerous with the ball in hand. Up front, James Wheeler and Anton Agassi made some dominant carries, which gave us front-foot ball and allowed us to get the ball wide.”
Summarising the overall performance, he added: “Both sides of the ball were excellent. We didn’t concede a try, which speaks volumes about our defence. Scoring 60 points shows that our attack is functioning well. Our set piece and fitness were key focuses in the off-season, and I think that really showed because we played the full 80 minutes with intensity.”
Red Lions will next face Estonia on Saturday 6 December 2025 at 14:30 at the Stade Josy Bartel in Luxembourg.
