As part of its “pop-up stores” initiative, the City of Luxembourg (VdL) has launched a call for applications for the rental of a commercial space in the Gare district, with a temporary shop expected to open in February 2026.

By offering short-term commercial rentals, the VdL aims to provide creators, entrepreneurs and start-ups with the opportunity to test new products, services or concepts through direct contact with customers. The “pop-up store” model serves as a stepping stone, allowing participants to gain experience in a physical retail space before committing to a permanent location, while also helping to diversify the city’s commercial offering.

The premises at 58 Avenue de la Liberté have a total surface area of 226 m² and include an unequipped kitchen area as well as a fitted consumption/lounge space. Proposals are being accepted primarily in the catering sector, offering light meals to take away or consume on site (such as crêperies, ice cream parlours, sandwich shops or coffee shops). These activities may also be combined with the sale of other products, including accessories, jewellery, art or decorative items.

The rental period is set at eleven months, with monthly rent ranging between €650 and €2,250, depending on the conditions, plus a flat-rate charge for utilities.

Interested entrepreneurs, retailers or start-ups have until Saturday 25 January 2026 to submit their applications via the form available on the VdL website.

Only complete applications, including a project description, will be considered. Selection criteria include the availability of candidates, as well as the originality and quality of the proposed concepts.

Owners of temporarily vacant commercial spaces who wish to join the project may contact the Economic and Commercial Development Unit of the VdL (via tel: 4796-5000, Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00 / via email: dec@vdl.lu).
