On Friday 5 December 2025, Luxembourg's Ministry of Sport announced the withdrawal of the proposed location for the Sports Museum (Musée des Sports) at the "Rout Lëns" site in Esch-sur-Alzette.

The project, initially presented on 5 June 2025, had foreseen installing the future museum in the former turbine hall on the "Rout Lëns" site. Following recent discussions, Luxembourg's Minister of Sport, Georges Mischo, has decided to withdraw this option.

The minister stressed that all stakeholders and relevant departments had worked professionally and in full compliance with their mandates. However, the ministry noted that legal uncertainties surrounding the initial approach has made it preferable to pursue an alternative direction in order to ensure the continuity and quality of the development of a national Sports Museum.

According to the ministry, this decision does not affect the minister's "firm commitment" to the creation of a Sports Museum in the Grand Duchy.
