On Friday 19 September 2025, Luxembourg's national statistical institute STATEC announced the publication of newest edition of Luxembourg in Figures, which provides a statistical overview of the country and Luxembourgish society. 

The 96-page brochure gathers previously unpublished statistical data on the territory and environment, population and labour market, social conditions, businesses, as well as the economy and public finances. International comparisons allow Luxembourg to be placed in context with other European Union countries and the world’s leading economies.

Amongst the data published by STATEC are statistics involving the environment, weather, birth rates, the most popular destinations for leisure activities, breakdowns of household expenditure and even which sports are the most popular in the Grand Duchy.

Examples of the data published in Luxembourg in Figures: 

• 58.4% of trees were significantly damaged in 2024;

• 6,459 children were born in Luxembourg in 2024;

• 15.7% of the population is under 15 years old in 2025 and 15.2% are over 65;

• The average age of men is 39.3 years and of women 40.7 years in Luxembourg in 2025;

• 2,567 marriages were celebrated in 2024 and 1,197 divorces took place;

• The average age of women at the birth of their first child is 31.4 years;

•  In 2025, Luxembourg has 265,000 households;

• 33.2% of the population are single, 47% married and 5.3% in a civil partnership;

• The median income per adult is €4,233, meaning half of adults earn less than this amount while the other half earn more;

• Niederanven is the municipality with the highest average salary;

• Football has the most registered members (46,210), followed by tennis (13,681), gymnastics (8,588) and basketball (7,647);

• On average, residents of Luxembourg spend €1,292 per holiday stay;

• France is the main destination for leisure trips, accounting for 20.6% of travel, followed by Germany (12.4%), Belgium (8.1%), Spain (8.0%) and Portugal (7.3%);

• In Luxembourg, 444,818 private vehicles are registered, including 32,061 electric and 57,686 hybrid vehicles;

• 20.56% of household expenditures are devoted to housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel.
