On Tuesday 15 September 2026, Belgian women’s health platform Uma Health announced the results of a study suggesting that Luxembourg women are better informed about (peri)menopause than women in Belgium and the Netherlands.
The research was conducted by polling institute iVOX on behalf of Uma Health and surveyed 3,500 women across the three Benelux countries, including 1,000 women in Luxembourg.
According to the results, 19% of women in Luxembourg received an insufficient score in a short knowledge test on (peri)menopause, compared with 30% in both Belgium and the Netherlands. Luxembourg respondents achieved an average score of 5.7 out of 10, the highest among the three countries.
The study also highlighted the role of healthcare professionals in providing information. More than half (55%) of respondents in Luxembourg said they obtained information from their GP or gynaecologist, compared with 40% in Belgium and 22% in the Netherlands. Only 11% of Luxembourg respondents reported finding little or no information, compared with around three in ten in the neighbouring countries.
Nevertheless, the study identified gaps in awareness of some less visible symptoms. Only 45% of women in Luxembourg recognised concentration or memory problems as a possible sign of (peri)menopause, with Uma Health noting that awareness of its mental aspects remained limited.
"The fact that Luxembourg women achieve the best results shows how much impact a strong doctor-patient relationship can have. But even here, the psychological signs of (peri)menopause remain underestimated," said Ann Broché, co-founder of Uma Health.
The Luxembourg part of the online survey was conducted by iVOX between 14 and 30 August 2026 among 1,000 women, representative in terms of age and level of education. The survey reported a maximum margin of error of 3.02%.
