Luxembourg's Water Management Authority (Administration de la Gestion de l'Eau – AGE) has announced the official start of the new bathing (swimming) season, which runs from Thursday 1 May to Tuesday 30 September 2025 and applies to several designated inland bathing sites across the Grand Duchy.

The following surface waters are officially open for bathing during the 2025 season: the two lakes in Weiswampach (upper and lower lake) in the municipality of Weiswampach; the Upper Sûre lake in the municipalities of Boulaide, Esch-sur-Sûre and Lac de la Haute-Sûre; the Remerschen ponds (designated bathing pond) in the municipality of Schengen; and the Echternach lake (designated bathing area "Adventure Island") in the municipality of Echternach.

According to the AGE, to ensure safe swimming conditions, microbiological water quality is monitored throughout the bathing season. These controls are carried out at designated monitoring points in accordance with the amended Grand Ducal regulation of 19 May 2009 concerning special protection measures and monitoring programmes for bathing water quality.

Based on Article 3 of the amended Grand Ducal regulation of 19 May 2009, the quality of bathing waters for the 2025 season was evaluated at the end of the 2024 season using monitoring results from 2021 to 2024.

The assessments are as follows:

- Weiswampach Lakes – Zone 1: Good; Zones 2 to 4: Excellent;
- Upper Sûre Lake – Rommwiss, Liefrange, Burgfried, Fuussefeld, Insenborn and Lultzhausen: Excellent;
- Remerschen Ponds – Zones 1 to 3: Excellent, Zone 4: Good;
- Echternach Lake (designated bathing area): Good.

In case of toxins caused by cyanobacteria (commonly known as blue-green algae) or other forms of pollution, swimming in affected areas will be prohibited until the hazard has passed. To increase awareness, the “Bloomin’Algae” mobile application allows citizens to report sightings and upload photographic evidence via the platform, as noted in the statement from Luxembourg's Water Management Authority.
