On Wednesday 12 November 2025, the City of Luxembourg (VdL) held a press conference to present this year’s Winterlights programme; speakers included Aldermen Maurice Bauer and Patrick Goldschmidt, as well as Laurent Schwaller, Head of the VdL Department of Public Spaces, Festivals and Markets.

This year’s Winterlights festival will take place from Friday 21 November 2025 to Sunday 4 January 2026, transforming Luxembourg City into a festive and welcoming destination with Christmas lights, decorations, winter chalets and Christmas trees set up throughout the capital.

The chalets will be selling Christmas decorations, handicrafts, toys, jewellery, clothing, sweets, as well as hot and cold drinks and various culinary treats ranging from traditional favourites to more original creations.

In Luxembourg city, Christmas markets are being erected at five locations:

- “Lëtzebuerger Chrëschtmaart” (Luxembourg Christmas Market) in Place d’Armes with 38 chalets offering food, drinks and gifts, alongside a twelve-metre decorated Christmas tree and traditional nativity scene;

- “Wantermaart” (Winter Market) at Place de la Constitution with 40 chalets, a 32-metre Ferris wheel, giant pyramid, rides and panoramic dining;

- Niklosmaart” (Nicholas Market) in Place de Paris with 14 chalets offering food, drinks, crafts and seasonal entertainment;

- “Wanterpark” (Winter Park) in Kinnekswiss featuring an open-air ice rink, gourmet food village and over 30 DJ performances; and

- “Sapin Royal” (Royal Tree) in Place Émile Hamilius will be a new attraction this year, with a ten-metre decorated tree, Christmas train and six chalets offering seasonal treats.

In addition, "Winterkids" and "Adventskalennerhaus" will return to Place Guillaume II with new attractions including a giant slide and a flying reindeer carousel. The "Winterkids Village" will host nearly 300 workshops and shows, from cooking and craft sessions to puppet theatre, singing and live music, creating a festive and creative atmosphere for children and families.

One of the biggest highlights for children will be the traditional "Kleeschen on Tour" on Sunday 30 November 2025. Accompanied by the Houseker and angels, Saint Nicholas will arrive by tram at Luxembourg-Gare at 14:30, continue to Place de Paris at 14:45 for the distribution of Titercher with musical accompaniment by the Bouneweger Nuechtigailercher, and then proceed to the Ville Haute around 16:00 via Rue Philippe II, Grand-Rue, Marché-aux-Herbes and Rue de la Reine to reach Place Guillaume II at 17:00. Mayor Lydie Polfer will address the crowd, and goodie bags will be distributed to children, accompanied by the Luxembourg City Conservatoire Children’s Choir.

There is a comprehensive programme of activities for all ages organised by the City of Luxembourg.

The full Winterlights 2025 programme is available on the official VdL website.
