The CIEL Photo Club has announced its new “Introduction to Studio Photography - Winter 2026” training course, to be held in English and starting on Saturday 10 January 2026.
According to the CIEL Photo Club, the training will introduce participants to the fundamentals of studio photography, including core lighting principles and studio setups. Sessions will take place at the Foyer Européen in Luxembourg-City and will be led by professional photographer Robin Jensen.
The club noted that the course is intended for photographers of all experience levels wishing to develop their studio-lighting skills, particularly those interested in portrait, product or still-life photography. A basic understanding of photography and camera operation is recommended.
Course objectives:
• Gain a thorough understanding of lighting principles and techniques;
• Explore various lighting setups, including Rembrandt, Loop, Butterfly and Clamshell;
• Master the use of one, two, three and four lights to achieve diverse lighting effects;
• Develop the ability to control and manipulate light to create desired moods and atmospheres;
• Experiment with different studio setups to enhance creative vision.
Course outline:
• The studio environment and its advantages;
• Essential studio equipment: cameras, lenses, lighting and modifiers;
• Exposure fundamentals for studio lighting;
• The nature of light and its properties;
• Light quality, direction and intensity;
• Measuring and controlling light.
Programme:
• Single-light setups: creating basic lighting effects (Saturday 10 January 2026, 14:00-17:00);
• Two-light setups: Rembrandt, Loop and Butterfly lighting (Saturday 17 January 2026, 14:00-17:00);
• Three-light setups: Clamshell lighting and advanced techniques (Saturday 24 January 2026, 14:00-17:00);
• Four-light setups: achieving complex and dramatic lighting (Saturday 31 January 2026, 14:00-17:00);
• Using multiple cobra flash devices (Saturday 7 February 2026, 14:00-17:00).
The course fee is €200 for members and €260 for non-members (including annual club membership).
