With the end-of-year festivities getting underway, Chronicle.lu is compiling a series of articles exploring some of the Christmas markets taking place across the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

While major events such as the markets in Luxembourg City and Esch-sur-Alzette run for several weeks, many smaller yet equally charming local markets open for just one day or a single weekend.

The municipality of Grevenmacher, together with local asscoiations, held its annual Christmas market, the "Chrëstmoart zu Maacher", over the weekend of Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 December 2025.

Located across the pedestrian zone of Grevenmacher and the "Kleng Moartplaz" (Place du Marché / market square), both areas were filled with more than 20 stalls offering grilled sausages and other hot dishes, street food and pastries, along with Christmas gifts and decorative items, such as candles and handmade crafts on the main shopping streets.

The town centre was decorated with strings of lights, illuminated snowflake motifs, a large Christmas tree in the central square and several nativity scene statues.

Throughout both days, the programme offered visitors of all ages a range of musical performances and entertainment, along with face painting and a carousel for children.

On Saturday, the market was open from 12:00 to 21:00, featuring a musical performance by the Regional Music School of Grevenmacher, followed by the official opening on the market square and the "Marche des 1000 lumières" (procession of lights). Further highlights included theatre performances, a concert by saxophone ensemble Saxitude and a LED light show in the evening. The Sunday programme ran from 12.00 to 18.00, continuing with the mix of art performances and an additional magic show during the day.

During Chronicle.lu's visit on Sunday evening, the concert by singer Marc Hansen gathered more than 100 people in the square around the relatively small stage setup, which suited the intimate setting.
