Luxembourg's Sequenda Opera Studio has announced two events for September 2026, marking the start of its autumn season.
The first event is a closing concert of Sequenda's seventeenth Summer Academy. It will take place at the École Régionale Musique et Danse in Dudelange on Saturday 5 September 2026 at 17:00.
The concert will present the results of a week of intensive work by the academy's participants. Since 2009, the Summer Academy has welcomed young professionals from conservatories and opera studios around the world, as well as semi-professional, amateur and beginner singers. Violinists, cellists and piano accompanists also participate in the programme, with all participants working with the same internationally renowned teachers.
Admission to the concert is by voluntary contribution.
The other concert is scheduled to take place on Friday 11 September 2026. Sequenda will present its new production of Puccini's one-act comic opera Gianni Schicchi at the Auditorium of Intesa Sanpaolo in Luxembourg-Ville, with performances scheduled for 16:00 and 19:00.
According to the organisers, the production will bring together promising young singers under the direction of established maestros in a modern staging. The performance will be preceded by an introduction from Rick Serrano focusing on Dante and The Divine Comedy.
Founded in 2008 by mezzo-soprano Luisa Mauro under the name Nei Stëmmen, Sequenda promotes opera and classical singing in Luxembourg through training workshops, concerts and productions. The organisation describes itself as Luxembourg's first opera studio and aims to bridge the gap between conservatory-level training and professional opera debuts.
Since its creation, Sequenda noted that it has welcomed more than 400 young opera singers representing 37 nationalities, as well as around 30 maestros from leading international opera institutions.
