On Thursday 27 August 2026, lux-Airport announced that United Airlines will launch a new daily nonstop service between Luxembourg Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport, serving the New York City area, from April 2027.
The new route, subject to government approval, will make United the first and only US airline to connect Luxembourg and the United States (US) nonstop.
Subject to government approval, the first flight from Newark Liberty International Airport to Luxembourg is scheduled for Friday 2 April 2027, with the first departure from Luxembourg taking place on Saturday 3 April 2026. The nearly year-round route will operate daily using United's new Airbus A321XLR aircraft.
Flights from Luxembourg (UA502) are scheduled to depart at 11:05 and arrive in Newark at 13:55 local time. Return flights (UA503) will leave Newark at 19:25 and arrive in Luxembourg at 09:20 the following morning.
Alexander Vanryckeghem, Country Sales Manager Belgium and Luxembourg at United Airlines, said: “For the first time, travellers from Luxembourg will benefit from a direct service to the US on our all-new Airbus A321XLR, with the ability to access nearly 130 destinations across the Western Hemisphere from our Newark/New York hub.”
He added that the route would also provide US travellers with direct access to Luxembourg, which he described as a “major global business hub” and the “Land of Castles”.
Alexander Flassak, CEO of lux-Airport, welcomed the announcement, saying: “This new long-haul service further strengthens Luxembourg Airport’s role as the airport of choice for the Greater Region and complements its already extensive range of direct destinations with a particularly attractive connection to the United States.”
He added: “We look forward to welcoming United Airlines and providing passengers across the Greater Region with convenient access to New York and destinations beyond.”
The Airbus A321XLR operating the route will have 150 seats, comprising twenty United Polaris suites, twelve United Premium Plus seats, 34 Economy Plus seats and 84 economy seats. Features will include free Starlink Wi-Fi for MileagePlus members, 4K OLED screens with Bluetooth connectivity and a snack bar in economy, noted United Airlines.
Furthermore, according to United Airlines, Newark Liberty International Airport is located about 23 km from Manhattan and offers an AirTrain connection to New York Penn Station in Midtown Manhattan, with a journey time of less than 30 minutes.
The Luxembourg route forms part of what United Airlines described as the “largest international network expansion in its history”. The airline plans to launch services to ten new international cities across Europe and Asia from spring 2027, including: Luxembourg; Toulouse and Marseille in France; Ibiza and Valencia in Spain; and Ljubljana in Slovenia.
