The Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) is organising the international conference Industrial Relations in a Changing World of Work (IREC 2025), to be held from Tuesday 16 to Thursday 18 September 2025 at the Luxembourg Lifelong Learning Centre (LLLC) in Luxembourg-Bonnevoie.

According to the institute, the central question of the event will be: “How will the Luxembourg world of work evolve in the face of the challenges of digitalisation, ecological transition and new forms of employment?”

The opening session, to be held on Tuesday 16 September 2025 at 14:00, will bring together Luxembourg Minister of Labour, Georges Mischo, President of the Luxembourg’s Chamber of Employees, Nora Back, and LISER Director Aline Muller.

LISER noted that IREC 2025 will provide “an opportunity to analyse, anticipate and debate the profound transformations underway in the world of work, in Luxembourg and in Europe.” The institute added that the conference aims to contribute to “collective reflection on how to adapt institutions and labour relations practices to a changing world of work.”Discussions, drawing on contributions from a variety of researchers, will address shifts linked to decarbonisation and digitalisation and their impact on labour relations.

A series of sessions, in French and English, will address topics such as collective bargaining, social dialogue, labour migration, platform work and the ecological transition.

LISER highlighted that four internationally renowned speakers will deliver keynote addresses. Richard Hyman, Emeritus Professor of Industrial Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science, will examine the challenges of decarbonising the economy. Maite Tapia, Associate Professor of Human Resources and Industrial Relations at Michigan State University, will speak about precariousness in the world of work. Renaud Bécot, Senior Lecturer at Sciences Po Grenoble, will discuss trade union action on the environment. Christine Aumayr-Pintar, researcher at the “Working Life” unit of Eurofound (European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions), will focus on the implementation of the European directive on the minimum wage.

Two of these talks, by Renaud Bécot and Maite Tapia, will be free and open to the public. Advance registration is required via the CSL website for those not already registered for the two-day IREC conference.
