Details:

Luxembourg’s National Day is celebrated each year on 23 June to mark the official birthday of the reigning Grand Duke.

In 2026, the celebrations will be particularly significant as they will be the first National Day celebrated under Grand Duke Guillaume since his accession to the throne.

Celebrating the monarch’s official birthday has been a tradition in Luxembourg since the end of the 18th century. In 1961, the date of 23 June was formally chosen for ":Groussherzogsgebuertsdag", regardless of the Grand Duke’s actual date of birth, and the annual celebrations have been held on this date ever since.

Festivities traditionally begin on the eve of National Day, 22 June, with the country’s largest public celebrations taking place in the capital. These include the torchlight procession (Fakelzuch), fireworks, concerts and parties held across the city, on café terraces and purpose-built stages. National Day itself is reserved for official ceremonies, such as the military parade and the Te Deum, as well as family-friendly activities including a Children’s Play Day.

As part of the 2026 celebrations, the City Sounds Festival will return to the Glacis in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg on 22 and 23 June. The free concert series will feature OneRepublic as the headline act, with the band set to perform on National Day itself, 23 June. Led by singer-songwriter Ryan Tedder, OneRepublic are known for international hits such as "Counting Stars", "Apologize", "Fire" and "Run".
