The association of Ukrainians in Luxembourg, LUkraine Asbl, is organising the third event in its “Advocacy Coalition — Defending Our Future Now” project on Tuesday 5 May 2026, a workshop titled “The Smartphone as Historian – Smartphones for Justice and Freedom”, to be held at the University of Luxembourg’s Kirchberg Campus.
The event, organised by the Embassy of Germany in Luxembourg in cooperation with the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History, is aimed at students aged sixteen and above, with around 40 participants expected to attend.
According to the organisers, the workshop will introduce the U-CORE research initiative, developed by researchers from Ukraine, Poland, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom, focusing on documenting and preserving testimonies of war and displacement following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
They added that, through a hands-on approach, participants will explore how smartphones can be used as tools to “document lived experiences”, “contribute to collective memory” and “support research”. The session will also address topics such as war, displacement and human rights, as well as the “responsible use of digital tools”, with the aim of fostering empathy, critical thinking and media literacy.
