For over 10 years, Cactus supermarkets in Luxembourg have supported UNICEF Luxembourg as a partner fighting for the welfare and rights of children.
Cactus has committed financially to the multi-year campaign "Schools for Africa" of UNICEF-Luxembourg by selling its orange juice in solidarity with the initiative. In practice, for each purchase of a litre of Cactus brand orange juice, 10 cents goes to the organisation in favour of an education project in Madagascar. Over the last 12 months of sales of the Cactus orange juice, no less than €12,222 have been raised for UNICEF, a considerable amount which the Cactus group was happy to hand over to UNICEF-Luxembourg.
Education remains the key to improving lives and changing entire communities. Education alone can end the inter-generational cycles of poverty. A good education provides girls and boys with all the knowledge to live healthy lives, to protect themselves against HIV / AIDS and to improve economic development of their communities.
Since the launch of the "Schools for Africa" campaign in 2004, more than 28.5 million children in 13 countries in sub-Saharan Africa have benefited from improved access to education, thousands new schools were built and the quality of education has evolved considerably.
