The 2025 edition of the GSSE brought together around 1,650 participants - including athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers - from nine European microstates: Andorra, Cyprus, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro and San Marino

Over five days of competition, “Red Lions”, represented by 164 athletes, claimed a total of 86 medals, comprising 32 gold, 27 silver and 27 bronze. This result placed Luxembourg second in the overall medal table, behind Cyprus, which topped the ranking with 108 medals.

The majority of Team Lëtzebuerg’s medals came from swimming. Over four days of competition, Luxembourg’s swimmers secured a total of 22 medals: seven gold, eight silver and seven bronze.

Luxembourg’s athletics team contributed fifteen medals to the national tally, including five golds. On the final day of competition in Andorra, victories came in the women’s triple jump where Melody Koffi took gold with a 12.49m leap and in the women’s 100m hurdles with Victoria Rausch winning in 13.48 seconds. Luxembourg’s final gold medal at the 2025 GSSE came in the mixed doubles tennis final, where Alex Knaff and Marie Weckerle defeated Malta’s Matthew Asciak and Francesca Curmi in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

Compared to the 2023 edition of the Games held in Malta, Luxembourg’s athletes won 20 more medals this time around.

The next Games of the Small States of Europe are scheduled to take place in Monaco in 2027, with Luxembourg set to host the event in 2029.
