On Saturday 27 September 2025, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Cooperation and Foreign Trade reported that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Xavier Bettel signed an air agreement with Benin and a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia on political consultations, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA80) in New York.
The Ministry added that Minister Bettel also held bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Laos and Saudi Arabia, as well as with Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe.
He further took part in the G20 ministerial meeting and a high-level event on UNRWA, and attended the plenary session of the General Assembly when Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden delivered his speech.
