On Friday 30 January 2026, Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Xavier Bettel, paid a working visit to Warsaw, Poland.
As reported by Luxembourg’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Minister Bettel held talks with his Polish counterpart, Radosław Sikorski.
According to the press release, the discussions focused on bilateral relations between Luxembourg and Poland, as well as ways to further strengthen cooperation, particularly in the economic and trade fields. Poland is currently Luxembourg’s eighth-largest trading partner within the European Union, while Luxembourg ranks among the leading European investors in Poland.
The ministry noted that Minister Bettel underlined Luxembourg’s strong ties with the Polish people, highlighting that the Polish diaspora represents the ninth-largest foreign community in Luxembourg, with around 5,150 Polish citizens, and plays an important role as a bridge between the two countries.
The two ministers also reaffirmed their shared commitment to European unity, the values of the European Union, multilateralism and NATO, particularly in the current geopolitical context.
The Foreign Ministry noted that discussions further covered current international issues, notably the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East. With regard to Ukraine, both ministers reiterated their support, particularly in the context of the energy crisis caused by Russian attacks, stressing that any peace negotiations must be acceptable to Ukraine and fully involve the European Union.
On the occasion of the visit, Minister Bettel also received, on behalf of Luxembourg, the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
