The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and its partners have announced the launch of the 2025 edition of the Safe2Eat campaign in Luxembourg, which aims to help consumers understand food safety issues by offering reliable, accessible and practical information for everyday life.
In a recent press release, the EFSA reported that after the success of the 2024 edition of the campaign, which reached more than 50 million people across Europe, the 2025 campaign takes a “more hands-on approach”. The campaign aims to provide clear and concise information on a number of food-related subjects, such as food additives, allergens, kitchen hygiene, food labelling and food-borne illnesses.
Luxembourg’s Minister of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture, Martine Hansen, said: “Just because we hear more about food alerts does not mean food safety is getting worse. In fact, the opposite is true. In Luxembourg, the Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) and the food supply chain players focus on transparency. That is why they quickly report any products that could pose a risk to human or animal health - it is an extra layer of protection for consumers.”
As part of the campaign, the ALVA will run an immersive exhibition in Ettelbruck during the Luxembourg Urban Garden (LUGA) open-air exhibition, from Monday 2 to Friday 13 June 2025. Visitors can explore one of the campaign’s five main themes through an interactive trail designed for children and adults, experts and those with curious minds.
On Tuesday 10 June 2025, ALVA will host a public event (in French) at the Centre des Arts Pluriels Ettelbruck (CAPE) to mark World Food Safety Day, which officially takes place on Saturday 7 June 2025. Across the day, events will include a public talk, discussions with industry and ALVA experts on inspections in food establishments and hands-on activities for all ages.
