On the evening of Wednesday 9 July 2025, the Marriott Hotel Alfa in Luxembourg-Gare hosted its Grand Opening Celebration, welcoming guests who included Luxembourg’s Minister for Home Affairs, Leon Gloden, Mayor of Luxembourg, Lydie Polfer, First Alderman of the City of Luxembourg, Maurice Bauer, and Alderwoman Corrine Cahen.
The iconic hotel, which recently reopened its doors following eight years of closure, welcomed around 200 guests who were entertained with music from a jazz band, singer and violinist, as well as a Charlie Chaplin impersonator. Guests were also treated to refreshments and food provided by the hosts.
General Manager of the Marriott Hotel Alfa, Rex Nijhof, welcomed guests and thanked all of those involved in the project and noted the high quality of work undertaken to “bring back to life this historic landmark in Luxembourg City”.
President for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Marriott, Satya Anand, spoke of the 20-year journey behind opening the first Marriott hotel in Luxembourg and thanked the Luxembourg government and the city’s authorities for their assistance in realising Marriott’s long-standing ambition to establish itself in the Grand Duchy. He said: “Thank you, Minister of Home Affairs. Thank you for being here, your support, your encouragement means a lot to us.”
In his speech, Minister Gloden reflected on the historical significance of the hotel and the time he had spent here in the past with his parents. He said: “Thank you to the Marriott Group for this huge investment here in this hotel […] because 40 years ago, I often came with my parents here to eat, to have dinner or to have lunch here […] already at the time an emblematic hotel in front of the station.”
Alderman Bauer added: “On behalf of the city of Luxembourg, we are very proud.”
