Luxembourg’s Customs and Excise Administration (ADA) reported that between Friday 29 August and Friday 3 October 2025, officers intercepted 1,051 cartons of cigarettes, equivalent to 210,385 cigarettes, at Luxembourg Airport.
According to the authorities, the cigarettes were intended for illegal distribution on the European market and were concealed in the luggage of passengers arriving mainly from Turkey and Armenia. In one of the cases, baggage tags had been illegally manipulated to make it appear that the journey was within the European Union.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against those involved. The Customs and Excise Administration stated that this operation once again demonstrates its commitment to combating tobacco smuggling, which poses a threat to the European market by circumventing tax regulations.
