On Monday 1 December 2025, the Grand Ducal Police issued a warning to the public about reports of cases in which fraudsters have impersonated police officers.

According to the police, in this scam the victims received a phone call from someone claiming to be a police officer. The caller would say that there had been several burglaries in the neighbourhood, some of the perpetrators had already been caught and the offenders were carrying a list which included the victim’s address. The victim was then told that a police officer would visit their home to collect and record their valuables. Subsequently, a fraudster would arrive, showing a fake police ID and take the valuables.

The police reminded the public that this is not how its officers operate. Every police officer in Luxembourg speaks Luxembourgish and can properly identify themselves.

The police issued the following advice to members of the public:

• do not allow yourself to be pressured, and if in doubt, dial the emergency number 113;

• take special care to inform and advise elderly members of your community about this type of scam.
