The Grand Ducal Police have reported that on Friday 12 December 2025, they carried out alcohol intoxication checks on the instruction of the Public Prosecutor, as provided for in Article 12, paragraph 3, subparagraph 8 of the amended law of 14 February 1955 concerning traffic regulations on all public roads.

According to the police, the checks took place from 23:00 to 01:00 in Gonderange on the N11 towards Luxembourg City.

In total, 521 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test, even in the absence of any serious indication. In ten cases, the test returned a positive result and reports or fixed-penalty warnings were issued accordingly.

Three driving licences were withdrawn on the spot.

The police also reported that during the checks, four other traffic offences were detected:

• one report for lack of insurance;

• one report for a motorway vignette unpaid for more than 60 days after its expiry date (A097 02);

• one report for a motorway vignette unpaid for less than 60 days after its expiry date (A097 01);

• one report for the use of a road vehicle fitted with one or more tyres whose main grooves did not meet the minimum tread depth requirements of 1.0 mm for mopeds and towed vehicles and 1.6 mm for other vehicles (A021 06).
