The Grand Ducal Police have reported a number of drink-driving incidents which occurred on Thursday 1 January 2026, across Luxembourg.

According to the initial information, in the early morning of Thursday 1 January, at around 01:57, police officers on patrol in Stadtbredimus noticed a vehicle with a flat tyre being driven in a pronounced zig-zag manner. The vehicle was stopped and checked. An alcohol test carried out on the driver returned a positive result, whereupon the driver’s licence was confiscated.

At approximately 04:55, the police were notified of a collision between two vehicles near Schlammestee in Weiler-la-Tour. At the scene, officers found a damaged vehicle parked in a nearby car park. According to initial information, a second vehicle collided with the rear of the first vehicle and then fled the scene. The driver responsible was later located by a police patrol. An alcohol test on the driver returned a positive result. The driver’s licence was confiscated and a report was drawn up for a road traffic accident involving a hit-and-run.

Then at around 07:43, the police received a report of a car being driven in the wrong direction on the A6 motorway. A police patrol was able to stop the vehicle between the Windhof slip road and the Belgian border. A breath alcohol test carried out on the driver returned a positive result and a report was drawn up by the officers.
