The Grand Ducal Police have reported that they apprehended two people following an attempted burglary in Esch-sur-Alzette.

In the early hours of Tuesday 6 January 2026, the police received a report of two men attempting to break into a jewellery store on Rue Dicks in Esch-sur-Alzette.

During a search operation, officers apprehended two men who had been hiding between and underneath parked cars. Police also found a hammer, a crowbar and a balaclava near the location where one of the suspects was detained. During a body search, officers found small quantities of cocaine and amphetamine on one of the men.

The two suspects were processed by police, a report was filed and charges were filed.

In addition, the police said they had received reports of several other burglaries in Garnich and Parc Hosingen.

On the afternoon of Monday 5 January 2026, a burglary was reported at a detached house on Rue de Holzem in Garnich. According to initial information, unknown perpetrators gained entry by forcing open the patio door and ransacked the property in search of valuables.

Later that same afternoon, a burglary was reported at a detached house in Parc Hosingen. Initial reports indicate that unknown perpetrators gained entry through the conservatory windows and ransacked several rooms. Cash was among the items stolen.

Investigations are ongoing in all cases.
