The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) has reported that firefighters responded to a blaze in Itzig in the early hours of Wednesday 7 January 2026.

Shortly before 02:00, the CSU-112 emergency call centre was alerted to a roof fire in Itzig.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered flames already escaping from the roof. Firefighting operations were immediately launched from both inside and outside the building.

One person was treated at the scene by an ambulance crew and emergency medical services (SAMU), before being transported to hospital. A total of 20 people required temporary accommodation.

In total, ten fire and rescue centres (CIS), the specialised intervention group GATO (operational technological support group), the logistics supply unit and several command officers were deployed. A paramedic from the medical support unit (SSI) was also mobilised to monitor firefighters' health, particularly given the cold temperatures.
