On Saturday 17 January 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported several incidents across Luxembourg, including shoplifting, traffic offences, drink-driving and a domestic dispute.

Motorcycle seized after accident

At around 15:00 on Friday 16 January 2026, police were notified of a traffic accident in Sanem. A motorcyclist crashed his vehicle in a roundabout and sustained minor injuries. He was taken to hospital. Checks revealed that the motorcycle's insurance had expired several months earlier. On the orders of the public prosecutor's office, the motorcycle was seized.

Suspected shoplifter arrested

At approximately 16:30 on Friday, police received a report of shoplifting at a store on Avenue de la Gare in Luxembourg City. Two suspected perpetrators were detained at the scene until police arrived. Subsequent checks revealed that one of the men had already come to the attention of the police on several occasions under a different name. He was arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor's office and brought before the investigating judge on Saturday morning. The second man was identified, processed and his details recorded.

Drugs found in unregistered and uninsured vehicle

During a routine traffic patrol at around 21:00 on Friday, police stopped a vehicle in Ettelbruck. Checks revealed that the vehicle was not properly registered and that the driver was unable to produce valid insurance. During the vehicle inspection, officers also discovered small quantities of drugs and drug paraphernalia. A report was filed and the vehicle was seized on the order of the public prosecutor's office.

Drink-driving incidents

Shortly before midnight, police were alerted to an accident on the A4 near the A13. No injuries were reported, but one of the drivers was found to be under the influence of alcohol. His driver's licence was confiscated.

At around 01:40, police received a report of a hit-and-run accident on the A4 towards the A13. Police spotted the fleeing vehicle shortly afterwards in Schifflange, but the two occupants were no longer at the scene. They were later located and questioned in Schifflange. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol. His driver's licence was confiscated and a report was filed.

At approximately 05:10 on Saturday, police on patrol in Esch-sur-Alzette observed a vehicle failing to yield the right-of-way at the intersection of Rue de la Libération and Boulevard John F. Kennedy. A subsequent check revealed that the driver was intoxicated. His driver's licence was confiscated and a report was filed.

Around 06:30 that same morning, police stopped a vehicle travelling at excessive speed on Route d'Arlon in Mamer. A breathalyser test carried out on-site returned a positive result, and the driver received a driving ban.

Removal from home following domestic dispute

Shortly after midnight, police received a report of a domestic dispute in Biwer, during which one person was assaulted. On the order of the public prosecutor's office, the alleged perpetrator was removed from the shared residence. The victim was taken to hospital for examination.
