On Tuesday 9 June 2026, Luxembourg’s Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, responsible for Media and Connectivity, Elisabeth Margue, took part in the European Union’s Transport, Telecommunications and Energy (TTE) Council, in its Telecommunications configuration, held in Luxembourg.
During the meeting, ministers exchanged views on the technological sovereignty of European public administrations.
"We must maintain a balanced and pragmatic approach, focusing on reducing critical dependencies and strengthening European digital capabilities. This includes promoting public-private partnerships and supporting suppliers established within the European Union where, and when, they are competitive,” emphasised Minister Margue.
Minister Margue also informed her counterparts of the outcomes of the D9+ ministerial meeting, which she hosted in Luxembourg the previous day. In particular, she presented the conclusions of discussions on the protection of minors online, during which participants highlighted the need for a coordinated European approach, as well as discussions on strengthening Europe’s competitiveness and digital sovereignty.
Minister Margue reiterated: "D9+ ministers discussed the fact that it is essential to establish a genuinely common European approach to protecting minors online, combining regulation, technology and education in order to achieve a real impact on the online safety of children and young people."
During the working lunch, ministers discussed ways to strengthen the European Union’s competitiveness and sovereignty in the field of satellite connectivity, a strategic sector for Europe’s resilience, security and autonomy.
According to Minister Margue: "Europe’s competitiveness cannot simply be decreed; it must be built through investment and innovation and must be founded on fair competition."
In addition, ministers adopted a general approach on the proposed regulation establishing European Digital Identity Wallets for businesses. This initiative aims to enable businesses and public bodies to identify and authenticate themselves and exchange data securely throughout the European Union, while reducing administrative burdens and facilitating cross-border activities.
Ministers also took note of progress made under the Cypriot Presidency on the Digital Networks Regulation, as well as on the European cybersecurity package.
