The Grand Ducal Police have reported that eight driving licences were revoked following drink-driving related incidents which occurred between Friday 10 and the early hours of Saturday 11 July 2026.
On 10 July 2026, between 22:30 and 00:00, the police carried out an alcohol screening check on Grand-Rue in Bergem, at the request of the State Prosecutor, as provided for under Article 12, paragraph 3, subparagraph 8, of the amended law of 14 February 1955 concerning traffic regulations on all public roads.
A total of 120 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test, even in the absence of any serious indication of impairment. In two cases, the test was positive and one official report was drawn up. No driving licences were confiscated on site.
Between 01:00 and 02:30, the police carried out a second alcohol screening check on Rue de la Reconnaissance Nationale in Bascharage at the request of the State Prosecutor.
A total of 63 motorists were subjected to a preliminary breath test, even in the absence of any serious indication of impairment. In five cases, the test was positive and five official reports were drawn up. Five driving licences also were confiscated on site.
At around 02:00 on Saturday 11 July, the police were notified of a vehicle driving erratically near Sandweiler, travelling at 30 km/h through a 90 km/h zone. During the subsequent check, the driver’s alcohol test returned a positive result. As she refused to undergo a further test, her driving licence was confiscated.
Shortly before midnight, the police were notified of a vehicle on the N15 that had attracted attention due to its dangerous driving. The police located the car and checked the driver. It was established that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and his driving licence was subsequently confiscated.
At around 17:00 on Friday 10 July, a police patrol in Grevenmacher encountered a vehicle that was having difficulty staying in its lane. The driver was stopped and checked. Following an alcohol test, which returned a positive result, the driver’s licence was confiscated.
