On Thursday 16 July 2026, the College of Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) launched the "Mäi Quartier - Meng Plaz" project, which temporarily transforms several public spaces into places for meeting, relaxation and cultural activities.
According to the VdL, the project features temporary installations and a programme open to all, enabling the city to test new ways of using and sharing public space.
The initiative builds on the findings of the "Quartierspläng" participatory process, conducted across the capital's 24 districts in 2024 and 2025. Residents identified a need for more greenery, shaded areas, social spaces, activities and places to meet, with the new project representing the first practical implementation of those ideas.
Residents, associations, businesses and cultural institutions are invited to take part in activities organised as part of the initiative, which runs until 13 September 2026.
