On Tuesday 8 September 2026, the Grand Ducal Police reported on several thefts from vehicles that had occurred in Mertzig, Esch-sur-Alzette and Luxembourg-Gare in recent days.
During the night of Friday 4 to Saturday 5 September 2026, three hunting rifles with ammunition, additional accessories and a drone were stolen from a parked vehicle in Mertzig. According to initial information, several individuals had tampered with the vehicle, which was locked but had its windows partially open.
As part of the subsequent investigation, police recovered and seized the stolen firearms in a park on Rue de l’École in Mertzig on Monday 7 September 2026.
Later that day, at around 19:45, police received a report of another theft from a vehicle on Rue d’Audun in Esch-sur-Alzette. An unknown perpetrator reportedly gained access to the vehicle by pushing down a rear side window and stole sunglasses, perfume, cash and tools.
Another incident occurred during the night leading into Tuesday 8 September 2026. A man reportedly entered a truck parked briefly near Luxembourg railway station and stole several jackets and cash.
Shortly afterwards, police located an individual carrying both jackets. Officers also found part of the stolen cash, as well as additional keys and work identification cards, in the individual's possession.
Police filed reports and launched further investigations into all cases.
Once again, police reminded motorists to fully lock their vehicles, even when leaving them unattended for a short period, and not to leave valuables inside.
