The Grand Ducal Police reported several cases in which severely intoxicated individuals were taken into protective custody between Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 October 2026.
According to the police, officers were called to an accident involving a cyclist in Rue des Halles in Diekirch on Wednesday afternoon. The man had fallen from his bicycle for reasons that remain unclear and sustained a minor head injury. An alcohol test returned a positive result.
The man was initially taken to hospital for a medical examination. However, due to his severe intoxication, his behaviour raised concerns and he posed a danger to himself and others. Following a medical examination, he was taken into protective custody until he sobered up.
During subsequent police procedures, officers discovered that the man was carrying a mobile phone that had been reported stolen a few days earlier. The phone was seized and returned to its rightful owner. Further investigations were launched.
