On Friday 2 October 2026, the National Museum of Resistance and Human Rights (MNRDH) announced that it had been named among six finalists for the Luigi Micheletti Award at the European Museum Academy (EMA) Awards 2026.

The awards ceremony took place during the EMA annual meeting at the Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) in Alicante, Spain, from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 September 2026.

The Luigi Micheletti Award recognises innovative European museums in the field of history, with particular attention given to permanent and temporary exhibitions that present history in an original and engaging way while creating links with contemporary society.

In this category, the MNRDH competed alongside twelve museums from Germany, Belgium, Croatia, Romania, the United Kingdom (UK), Switzerland and Turkey. According to the museum, its selection recognised its approach of combining historical rigour in presenting the Second World War with direct links to contemporary issues.

The finalist projects were presented at MARQ before a jury of experts from across Europe. The wider competition featured dozens of institutions across several categories and brought together more than 120 museum professionals and representatives from fourteen countries, noted the MNRDH.

Earlier this year, the MNRDH was also officially nominated for the European Museum of the Year Awards (EMYA) 2026. The associated conference and awards ceremony took place in Bilbao, Spain, in June.

The museum said its nominations for the two European awards strengthened its position on both the national and international museum scene.
