On Friday 19 September 2025, Amazon released data detailing the company’s investments in Luxembourg and revealed it had invested more than €1.8 billion in the country in 2024, bringing their total investment in the Grand Duchy to over €10 billion in the past decade.

During an announcement on Friday 19 September by Mariangela Marseglia, Vice President - EU Stores, it was reported that the total employment impact of Amazon’s European HQ is estimated to exceed 10,500 jobs.

According to estimates by consultancy firm Keystone Strategy, Amazon’s investments contributed more than €700 million to Luxembourg’s GDP in 2024 and supported approximately 6,300 indirect and induced jobs in areas like construction, logistics and professional services. The firm also noted that more than 150 Luxembourg SMEs sold products through Amazon in 2024, generating more than €45 million in export sales.

Mariangela Marseglia said: “For more than 20 years, Amazon has been investing in Luxembourg as our European headquarters.” She added: “These latest figures demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the country and highlight the positive impact our investments continue to have on Luxembourg’s economy.”

Since Amazon first established operations in the Luxembourg in 2003, its investment in the country has grown significantly over the past decade, totalling €10 billion and creating an estimated cumulative contribution of over €3.5 billion to Luxembourg’s GDP during that period.

Keystone Strategy analysis showed that for every euro invested by Amazon in Luxembourg since 2010, an estimated €0.73 has been generated in value-added effects (GDP contributions), underscoring the company’s role as a significant driver of economic growth in the Grand Duchy.

“Private investment from both local and multinational companies is crucial for Luxembourg’s continued economic growth and innovation,” commented Lex Delles, Luxembourg Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism. He added: “Amazon’s long-term commitment to Luxembourg demonstrates the attractiveness of our country as a business destination and we welcome their continued investment in our economy and people.”

Amazon is now one of the largest employers in Luxembourg, with more than 4,250 permanent employees representing over 100 nationalities and earlier this year, the company was named a Top Employer in Luxembourg for the second consecutive year, following a certification process by the Top Employers Institute. Amazon was one of only six companies in Luxembourg to receive the certification, which recognizes consistent prioritisation of employee growth and wellbeing.

“Our teams in Luxembourg play a crucial role in Amazon’s European operations,” said Mariangela Marseglia. She explained: “From corporate decision-making to strategic planning, financial operations and legal and regulatory compliance for all European stores, Luxembourg serves as the centre of excellence for our European business.”

According to the report, Luxembourg also serves as a key hub for Amazon’s broader European presence, with the analysis showing that across the region the company had invested over €320 billion since 2010 and employed more than 230,000 permanent employees.

According to Keystone’s estimates, Amazon’s investments across Europe indirectly supported more than 630,000 jobs in 2024 and the company’s European operations have helped more than 280,000 European SMEs reach global customers, generating more than €21 billion in export sales in 2024. Of these, more than 127,000 EU-based SMEs recorded more than €15 billion in export sales.

Today, Amazon’s campus in Kirchberg spans eight buildings, housing business teams ranging from Stores to Operations, Devices and Amazon Web Services (AWS), with employees working in a variety of roles, from product and programme management to software development and engineering.

Mariangela Marseglia noted: “As we look to the future, Luxembourg will continue to play a vital role in Amazon’s European operations. Our success brings with it a broader responsibility to the communities we serve and we remain committed to making a positive impact on Luxembourg’s economy, supporting local businesses and contributing to the well-being of the communities where our employees live and work.”
