On Friday 10 July 2026, the Luxembourg Film Fund announced that three Luxembourg co-productions have been selected for this year’s edition of the Locarno Film Festival.
According to the Luxembourg Film Fund, three co-productions supported by the Luxembourg Film Fund have been selected for the programme of the 79th edition of the Locarno Film Festival, which will take place from Wednesday 5 to Saturday 15 August 2026.
Among the selected films, Objet A has been chosen for the prestigious Concorso Internazionale, the festival’s main competition, where it will compete for the Pardo d’Oro (Golden Leopard), Locarno’s highest award.
Directed by Ann Oren, Objet A is a Luxembourg co-production by Tarantula Luxembourg (producer: Donato Rotunno), in partnership with Germany and Greece. The film also features significant Luxembourg involvement across key creative and technical roles, including Audrey Hernu (production design), Aaron Baustert (sound mixing), Kyan Bayani (original score), Carmen Di Pinto (costume design), Gabriel Ohresser (sound engineer), Jasmine Schmit (make-up) and Ingo Dumlich (dialogue editing).
Synopsis: Ingeborg and Adam are partners in both life and work. As visionary hand surgeons, they enjoy being in control. She has a passion for stealing objects, while he dreams only of becoming her object. After an accident, she is forced to slow down and accept the help of a mysterious young woman named Gaia. As Ingeborg develops new obsessions, Adam embarks on a search for his own object of desire.
Luxembourg will also be represented in the new Locarno Kids Screenings competition with New York, Miriam and Me (Children of Liberty).
Created this year, the competitive section highlights films for young audiences and viewers of all ages wishing to discover the world through a fresh perspective. A jury of young filmgoers will present the Locarno Kids Award la Mobiliare.
Directed by Rémy Schaepman and Léahn Vivier-Chapas, the animated feature is a Luxembourg co-production by Mélusine Productions (producers: Stéphan Roelants and Fabien Renelli) in partnership with France. Following its selection at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the film continues its international festival journey with this latest selection at Locarno.
Luxembourg will also be represented in the non-competitive Histoire(s) du Cinéma section with the drama Death Has No Master, which was presented earlier this year during the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival.
Directed by Venezuelan filmmaker Jorge Thielen Armand, the feature is a Luxembourg co-production between Deal Productions (producers: Alexandra Hoesdorff and Désirée Nosbusch) and partners from Venezuela, Canada and Italy.
The film’s lead actress, Asia Argento, will receive the Life Achievement Award during the festival.
The Luxembourg Film Fund said: “With these three selections, Luxembourg once again demonstrates the strength of its audiovisual sector and the quality of its international collaborations.”
Beyond the film selections, the Luxembourg Film Fund will be a partner of the Open Doors programme within Locarno Pro, the festival’s co-production and talent development platform dedicated to supporting under-represented regions and communities facing challenging production conditions. One strand of the Open Doors programme promotes audiovisual collaborations and co-productions with the featured region, which this year encompasses 42 countries across the African continent.
As part of the same initiative, and in collaboration with Luxembourg-based professional training organisation EAVE, the Luxembourg Film Fund will award a scholarship to one of the producers selected for the Open Doors programme, enabling them to take part in the EAVE Marketing Workshop, which will be held in Luxembourg in November 2026.
