On Thursday 24 September 2026, Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture announced the publication of a new report providing an overview of the country's library sector, as part of the implementation of the “Kulturentwécklungsplang” 2018-2028 (Cultural Development Plan).
The 183-page report centres on a study of the sector carried out by Henning Marmulla. It also includes a transcript of discussions held during the 2024 sectoral conference dedicated to libraries, as well as detailed statistics on the various actors in the sector, employment in libraries and library use in Luxembourg.
The publication is complemented by a bibliography, webography and directory of libraries in Luxembourg.
The report is the sixth volume in a series examining Luxembourg's various artistic and cultural sectors. Previous publications have focused on theatre (2022), amplified music (2022), classical music (2023), visual arts (2024) and the book, literature and publishing sector (2025).
According to the ministry, the publications form part of the implementation of Recommendation 6 of its Cultural Development Plan, which calls for the establishment of a "precise and comprehensive overview of Luxembourg's artistic and cultural sector".
The new volume is available digitally on the ministries website and is expected to become available in print shortly upon request from the ministry.
