On Wednesday 8 October 2025, Sushi World opened its first restaurant in Luxembourg, located in Luxembourg-Ville, near Place d’Armes (28 Rue du Curé), in the capital’s city centre.
The Belgian family-owned sushi restaurant aims to offer authentic Japanese cuisine prepared to order. Founded in 2007 by Marck and Nathalie Beyret in Brussels, the brand has since developed through a franchise model and operates eight restaurants across Belgium.
For this first international expansion, the founders’ son, Alexandre Beyret, has chosen Luxembourg for the brand’s next stage of development. Having grown up in the restaurant business, he now manages the new Sushi World together with his team.
Speaking to Chronicle.lu, Alexandre explained: “My parents opened their first restaurant in Brussels eighteen years ago, and I [was] born around this time, so I grew up in this area (with restaurants, etc.). After finishing school, it was the time to open [my own restaurant] and the brand in another country. In Belgium, [Sushi World] already has franchises, we already have eight restaurants in Belgium, and now I came to Luxembourg to do the same with franchises […] This is the story, this is why I’m here. It's because I am here since I was born and I grew up in this [world]…”
His mother, Nathalie, who is also a co-founder of the brand, added that when she and her Parisian husband opened their first Sushi World, there were no other sushi restaurants in Brussels. “Eighteen years ago, we opened the first Sushi World in Belgium, in Brussels. Our first baby, Alexandre, was born in January, and Sushi World was born in March. We worked a lot,” she said, adding that they continued opening one restaurant after another until it became “too much work” to do alone. “We decided to franchise,” she explained, adding that team members were interested in taking part and opening their own restaurants. She noted that Alexandre grew up and worked in this environment and so “when he decided to continue the story of Sushi World, he wanted to challenge himself and open in another country, and he chose Luxembourg because it’s near and he loves Luxembourg. […] At the same time, he has the challenge of opening Sushi World where nobody knows [it]. He wants to put his [own] touch on the atmosphere, the decoration […] His story begins now.”
According to Sushi World, future openings in Luxembourg are being considered depending on local reception and demand.
