On Thursday 28 August 2025, Luxembourg’s Water Management Administration (AGE) and the association Citizens for Ecological Learning & Living (CELL) announced that they had joined forces to deliver a clear and essential message: water concerns us all.

Through the launch of a new campaign - “One Water – Mir si Waasser” - AGE and CELL hope to encourage citizens to learn about water management challenges in Luxembourg, with the aim to “better protect our most precious resource”.

According to AGE and CELL, the campaign forms part of the development of the fourth management plan under the EU Water Framework Directive, with two key objectives:

⁃ understanding the causes of the degradation of our rivers and groundwater;

⁃ acting collectively to strengthen the country’s resilience to water-related challenges.

Marc Hans, Director of the Water Management Administration, said: “Protecting water means protecting ourselves. Sustainable management of this vital resource relies on a shared commitment between authorities, citizens and key sectors. Together, through coordinated efforts, we will achieve real improvements.”

As part of this collective effort, AGE and CELL highlighted three priorities:

  1. use water more efficiently: reduce waste and adapt to periods of drought;
  2. give rivers back their space: promote river restoration and strengthen the resilience of urban areas against flooding;
  3. reduce pollution: limit the impact of everyday products, agriculture and industry.

As part of the initiative, AGE and CELL have produced a variety of content for citizens to explore, including a dedicated social media campaign, educational videos, interviews with engaged actors and practical tips to better protect water in daily life. All content will appear via CELL’s communication channels and will be available on the AGE website.

Moreover, AGE and CELL have announced that a public consultation will take place at the beginning of 2026 to involve citizens in developing the next water management plan. The consultation will be accessible via the Zesumme Vereinfachen platform.
