On Tuesday 21 July 2026, Luxembourg champions FC Atert Bissen lost to Hungary's Győri ETO FC in a high-scoring first leg of their UEFA Conference League first qualifying round tie at the Stade de Luxembourg, in front of 1,021 spectators.
Pedro Garcia made four changes to the starting line-up following his team's UEFA Champions League qualifying defeat. Geordan Dupire replaced Yassine Gourari-Tebaa in goal, while Zakaria Louriz came into the defence in place of Mehdi Terki. Injured Tiago Rodrigues Da Costa was replaced by Reda Eddarraj, with Lenny Correia taking the place of Brian Silva.
Győri ETO created the first opening of the match in the third minute when Szabolcs Schön's effort was blocked inside the penalty area. Bissen responded almost immediately through captain Roman Ferber, whose shot was tipped behind for a corner by Samuel Petráš. Ferber threatened again six minutes later, but his effort from the left side of the penalty area went straight into the hands of the Győri goalkeeper.
The Hungarian club took the lead in the twelfth minute. Following a cross from the right flank, Claudiu Bumba finished first time from close range to put the visitors 1-0 ahead.
Atert Bissen struggled to move beyond the halfway line during the opening twenty minutes as Győri ETO controlled possession and pinned Pedro Garcia's team deep inside their own half. However, a mistake while playing out from the back gifted Roman Ferber possession on the edge of the penalty area, and the Bissen captain made no mistake, beating Samuel Petráš to level the score at 1-1.
The visitors restored their advantage just four minutes later. Milán Vitális delivered a free-kick from the left touchline that evaded both defenders and attackers before finding the far corner of the net. Győri ETO nearly extended their lead in the 29th minute when Claudiu Bumba combined well with a teammate before forcing Geordan Dupire into a save, while Szabolcs Schön fired narrowly wide from the edge of the area two minutes later.
The closing stages of the first half became increasingly physical, with Welsh referee Iwan Arwel Griffith repeatedly stopping play for fouls. Khalid Abi came close to equalising in the 43rd minute with an attempt towards the far corner, but his effort missed the target. Győri ETO capitalised almost immediately at the other end, as Nfansu Njie finished a swift attack to give the visitors a 3-1 lead going into the break.
The Hungarian team continued to dominate after the restart and scored their fourth goal just three minutes into the second half. Nfansu Njie broke into the penalty area and struck towards the near post, with Geordan Dupire unable to hold onto the ball as it slipped into the net.
The home side responded with a series of chances. Khalid Abi forced Samuel Petráš into a save from around twelve metres in the 51st minute before Lenny Correia tested the goalkeeper from distance following the resulting corner. Khalid Abi then delivered a dangerous free-kick from the left seven minutes later, although none of his teammates managed to get a touch. Roman Ferber threatened again in the 65th minute, firing over the crossbar after cutting inside from the right.
After a quieter spell, the match came back to life in the 74th minute. Győri ETO threatened first, but Geordan Dupire gathered a routine effort before Bissen immediately broke forward. Khalid Abi latched onto a precise pass inside the penalty area and lifted the ball over Samuel Petráš to reduce the deficit to 4-2. One minute later, the forward had an opportunity to score again after beating his marker inside the box, but this time the Győri goalkeeper denied him.
Any hopes of a comeback were short-lived. Substitute Viktor Đukanović restored the visitors' three-goal advantage in the 78th minute, controlling a corner with his first touch before placing his second into the bottom corner. Rafael Fernandes then struck the outside of the post after a strong run down the right wing, before another substitute, Kevin Bánáti, converted a low cross from the left in second-half stoppage time to seal a 6-2 victory for Győri ETO.
The return leg of the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round tie will take place at ETO Stadion in Győr, Hungary, on Thursday 30 July 2026.
