On Thursday 19 March 2026, the Fédération des Industries Luxembourgeoises (FEDIL) announced that its board of directors, at a meeting held the same day, had decided to appoint Alex Schumann as its new president, following the departure of Georges Rassel after two years in the role.

Alex Schumann, who has been a member of FEDIL’s board of directors since 2022 and vice-president since April 2024, is Production Director at Goodyear Luxembourg. He is due to take office at the federation’s general assembly on Friday 27 April 2026.

Frank Thomé was also appointed as vice-president alongside Jean-Louis Schiltz.

According to the federation, at the meeting, the board of directors examined the current geopolitical situation and its economic consequences for industrial companies in Luxembourg. Some companies are already being affected by rising energy prices and disruptions to supply chains.

In this context of uncertainty, FEDIL stressed the importance of anticipating, together with the government, the effects on inflation and economic activity, and of preparing corrective measures in a timely manner.

With regard to the social minimum wage, FEDIL firmly opposes a structural increase. Concerned about the high level of uncertainty on the labour market, FEDIL warned against the particularly negative and undesirable signals that could arise from prolonged discussions and unnecessary speculation. The government should clarify its position promptly. If it were to further fuel a wage spiral that could destroy jobs in the private sector, it would have to fully assume responsibility for the consequences. No European obligation requires such a move, and any compensation would not offset the impact if the chosen path leads to a structural increase in the social minimum wage, in addition to upcoming indexations and periodic adjustments.
