On Friday 12 September 2025, Luxembourg-based robotics company SolarCleano announced it has secured a firm order and an option for 500 robots to be delivered in China over the next three years.
The agreement was signed in Luxembourg by SolarCleano CEO Christophe Timmermans and the director of Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone (ZAEZ) management committee, TIAN Haitao, in a ceremony witnessed by LIU Ning, Secretary of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.
Supported by the Zhengzhou-Luxembourg International Cargo Air Route, also known as the Air Silk Road, this deal strengthens collaboration in green technologies between the two countries.
SolarCleano noted that China recently surpassed 1,000 GW of installed solar capacity and aims to triple this within five years. SolarCleano's robotic solutions will support this growth, with a wholly owned assembly line in the ZAEZ producing robots to meet the demands of China and Asia markets.
SolarCleano robots are designed for large-scale solar plants in harsh environments such as the Taklamakan and Gobi deserts. Their waterless cleaning system maximises energy output while reducing operational costs in regions in water-scarce areas.
The expansion is also expected to boost SolarCleano's operations in Luxembourg, with plans to grow its engineering team and invest in a new headquarters in Grass in 2026, reinforcing the country's position as a European green tech hub. SolarCleano said it expects this landmark order to create momentum in other fast-growing solar markets worldwide.
Since its creation in 2017, SolarCleano has delivered robotic solutions to more than 100 countries.
