On Friday 20 February 2026, Luxembourg's employment agency, ADEM, reported that 21,255 resident jobseekers were available for work at the end of January 2026, while the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 6.3% (compared to 6.2% in December 2025).

The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM as of 31 January 2026 stood at 21,255, an increase of 1,824 people (+9.4%) over one year. Highly qualified jobseekers were particularly affected (+15.9% year-on-year). This varied by age group, with an increase of 7.8% among those over the age of 45, 11.3% among 30- to 44-year-olds and 8.9% among those under 30.

Trends in the types of jobs sought have remained similar over recent months, with the sharpest increases recorded in secretarial and administrative support, accounting and IT roles.

The number of new registrations of resident jobseekers remained generally stable: 3,101 residents registered in January 2026, down 0.6% compared to January 2025.

The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits fell by 31.6% over one year to 7,396. ADEM noted that, as in the previous month, this figure remains influenced by major IT system changes introduced in November 2025, which affect the date on which new jobseekers eligible for unemployment benefits are recorded. As of 31 January, 1,468 resident jobseekers undergoing external professional redeployment received a waiting or professional waiting allowance (+2.2% year-on-year). The number of resident beneficiaries of employment support measures reached 4,404 (+1.7%).

Moreover, ADEM recorded 4,061 non-resident registered jobseekers as of 31 January 2026, representing a 22.4% increase over one year. Approximately 58% of these individuals held external professional redeployment status and were eligible for financial assistance from ADEM under the same conditions as residents; this category of jobseekers increased by 8.9% year-on-year. The second category of non-residents registered with ADEM are individuals who voluntarily register as jobseekers without receiving any financial support. This was the case for 1,723 people as of 31 January 2026, or approximately 42% of non-resident jobseekers. The number of these individuals rose sharply by 47% over the past year.

A total of 1,070 non-residents registered as new jobseekers in January 2026, representing an increase of 28.3%. Among non-residents undergoing external professional redeployment, 885 received full unemployment benefits (-13% year-on-year), while 1,640 received waiting or professional allowances (+2.1%).

In January 2026, employers reported 3,383 job vacancies to ADEM, i.e. a decrease of 1.3% compared to one year earlier. The total number of available vacancies fell to 5,977, marking a drop of 8.7% year-on-year. The largest decreases were recorded in the accounting, secretarial and administrative, IT and construction sectors.
