On Tuesday 21 July 2026, Luxembourg's Minister for Research and Higher Education, Stéphanie Obertin, attended the informal meeting of European ministers responsible for research and innovation in Dublin, Ireland, where discussions focused on strengthening Europe's competitiveness through a genuine single market for knowledge, research and innovation.
According to Luxembourg's Ministry for Research and Higher Education, the event was organised as part of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU).
During the meeting, Minister Obertin reaffirmed Luxembourg's support for a more integrated European Research Area, promoting the mobility of researchers, the free circulation of knowledge and data, and stronger cooperation between research and innovation stakeholders, noted the ministry.
Minister Obertin also highlighted the importance of strengthening technology transfer, supporting innovative businesses and maintaining ambitious investment in fundamental research, which she described as essential for preparing tomorrow's innovations.
"For a small country like Luxembourg, openness and European cooperation are not a choice but a necessity. The more we strengthen synergies between our researchers, universities, businesses and infrastructures, the more Europe will be able to innovate and remain competitive in tomorrow's strategic technologies," she said.
